Lady Bengals drop home opener to Blinn College on Monday night
The LSU Eunice women's basketball team opened up its 2014-2015 home schedule on Monday night, falling 119-73 to visiting Blinn College.
The Lady Bengals (0-3) finished the night shooting 21-for-58 from the floor (36 percent) while hitting 33 percent of their three-point attempts overall (4-for-12). They connected on 63 percent (19-for-30) of their attempts from the free throw stripe as well. As a team, they grabbed 26 total rebounds, had eight assists and five steals, but turned the ball over 17 times in the game.
"We did some things well in the first half, but we have to do a better job in the second half to not let teams pull away from us down the stretch," head coach Amanda Clemons said.
Sophomore Taylor Holzmeier led the offensive attack, finishing the night with 27 points while playing all 40 minutes of the game. She added eight rebounds, two assists and a steal to her final stat line as well.
Freshman Katie Lemieux notched 19 points of her own, adding six rebounds, four steals and two blocks in just over 37 minutes. Fellow freshman India Marbs rounded out the double-digit scorers, finishing with 12 points and grabbing three rebounds.
Freshmen Erin Maddox (8 points, 2 rebounds), Amber Richard (3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist), Maggie Miller (2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) and Brianna Ramirez (2 points, 1 rebound) all filled the score sheet as well.
Blinn College saw seven of their 12 players tally double-digit scoring nights, led by Moe Bedford's 16 points.
LSU Eunice hits the road to take on Faulkner State Community College on Thursday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. in Alabama.
