The LSU Eunice women's basketball team went on the road in conference play for the first time on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a 66-62 win over Southern University-Shreveport.

The victory pushes the Lady Bengals to 21-1 on the season and 2-0 in Miss-Lou Conference play, while Southern-Shreveport falls to 5-14 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

A tight contest throughout, LSU Eunice trailed by three at the half before coming away with the four-point win in the back-and-forth game.

The biggest stat of the night came from the free throw line, where the Lady Bengals hit 59 percent (27-for-46) of their attempts from the stripe on a night where baskets were hard to come by from the floor.

LSU Eunice finished the afternoon shooting 31 percent from both the floor (15-48) and behind the three-point line (5-16).

All five Lady Bengal starters finished in double figures, as they accounted 91 percent (60) of the teams' offensive production.

Sophomore Reagan Maricle led all scorers with 22 points, adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win, while her sister, Taylor Maricle, notched 13 points of her own with six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Baylie Lee scored nine of her 12 total points in the first half for LSU Eunice, grabbing six rebounds as well, while fellow sophomores Meghan Cross and Brooke Richard each tallied 10 points. Cross added seven rebounds and two steals, while Richard grabbed a pair of rebounds and passed out three assists.

Kelsey Thibodeaux and Taylor Holzmeier each added two points off the bench, with Thibodeaux collecting three rebounds and Holzmeier grabbing one rebound. Ashlyn Wiemann notched a single point from the free throw line to round out the LSU Eunice scoring, adding one assist.

For Southern-Shreveport, three players tallied double-figure scoring, as Velma Brown and Justice Gunnells each finished with 12 points and Mariah Gilliam finished with 11 points.

The Lady Bengal defense shut down Gunnells and Gilliam in the second half however, as the pair finished with just four of their 23 combined points in the second stanza.

LSU Eunice continues Miss-Lou Conference play on the road Wednesday, as they travel to New Orleans to take on Delgado Community College.

Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. and can be seen on Bengal All-Access and heard on KVPI 92.5 FM.
