The LSU Eunice women's basketball team got back on track Wednesday night, pulling away for an 87-64 victory over visiting Southern University-Shreveport in Miss-Lou Conference action.

The Lady Bengals (23-2 overall, 4-1 Miss-Lou) took a five point lead into halftime but opened the second period with a 14-0 run over the first six minutes to give themselves some cushion.

In the first half, the teams traded baskets in the opening ten minutes before the Lady Bengals pushed their lead out to as high as 12 before seeing Southern-Shreveport (6-16, 1-4) make a run in the final two minutes to pull the game to its' halftime score.

Overall, LSU Eunice shot 49 percent (30-for-61) from the floor and 64 percent (23-36) from the free throw stripe, adding four three-point baskets (4-14, 29 percent) in the win.

"We expected (Southern-Shreveport) to come out and be really aggressive and tough, and in the first half I don't think we were as aggressive on offense. In the second half, we came out and started to box out and we were able to get some things going on offense," head coach Yolanda Moore said.

Sophomore Reagan Maricle led all scorers with 27 points, adding eight rebounds, four steals, four assists and a block to fill her stat line. Fellow sophomore Meghan Cross tallied 15 points, including 13 in the first half, while grabbing seven rebounds and a pair of steals.

Baylie Lee rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points, with eight coming in the second half, as the sophomore grabbed four rebounds as well.

Freshman Taylor Holzmeier notched eight points off the bench, while sophomores Taylor Maricle and Brooke Richard each finished with six points. Taylor Maricle passed out a game-high 10 assists while grabbing five rebounds and collecting four steals, while Richard finished her night with three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Ashlyn Wiemann (1 rebound, 1 assist) and Kelsey Thibodeaux (2 rebounds) each chipped in five points off the bench, while Meghan Knight (2 points) and Misha Mouton (1 point) each got on the scorebook from the free throw stripe.

Southern-Shreveport saw three players finish in double-figures, as Chaterra Cage and Takeelah White each finished with 15 points and Velma Brown finished with 11 points.

The Lady Bengals continue Miss-Lou Conference play at home on Saturday afternoon when they host Delgado Community College in a 1 p.m. tipoff. LSU Eunice won the first meeting between the teams 65-48 last week in New Orleans.
