The LSU Eunice women's basketball team let go of a 15-point halftime lead on the road against Southern University-Shreveport, falling 79-77 in the closing seconds in Miss-Lou Conference play Saturday afternoon.

With the game tied and under 20 seconds remaining, Southern-Shreveport (7-19 overall, 2-6 Miss-Lou) missed a shot but grabbed their own rebound before being fouled by LSU Eunice (25-3, 6-2) and making both free throws to take a two-point lead.

The Lady Bengal next offensive possession did not result in points, but they had one final attempt after fouling and seeing the hosts miss the front end of a one-and-one before Reagan Maricle saw her half-court attempt sail off the mark at the final horn.

Overall, LSU Eunice finished the afternoon shooting 49 percent (27-of-55) from the floor and 64 percent (18-28) from the free throw line. They also added two three-point baskets (2-9, 22 percent).

Reagan Maricle finished with a game-high 26 points in the loss, while fellow sophomore Meghan Cross tallied 20 points and Brooke Richard finished with 10 points.

Baylie Lee added nine points, while Taylor Maricle tallied seven points. Taylor Holzmeier came off the bench to collect four points while Kelsey Thibodeaux notched two points of her own off the bench.

Despite the loss, the Lady Bengals can still clinch the Miss-Lou Conference championship with a win against Delgado Community College on Wednesday night in New Orleans, scheduled for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
