Lady Bengal bats explode for six homers in Saturday road doubleheader sweep

The LSU Eunice softball team collected 21 total hits in a doubleheader sweep over Northeast Texas Community College, taking game one by a 7-1 score before a 15-2 win in the finale.

Overall, the No. 1-ranked Lady Bengals (5-0) drove in 18 RBIs on the afternoon while connecting on six total home runs.

The Lady Bengals scored four runs in the top of the first inning in the opening game to never look back, adding a single run in the second frame and two final runs in the fifth before scoring five runs in three different innings in the game two win.

In the opening game, LSU Eunice saw its' 1-4 hitters in the lineup combine to go 7-13 with six RBI and seven runs score in the big win, led by sophomore Emily Nolan's 2-2 game with a pair of homers and five total RBIs. Fellow sophomore Codi Covington finished 2-4 with a triple and run scored, while sophomore Brooke Clark notched a 1-3 game with a pair of runs scored and freshman Taylor Boulet collected two hits, including a double and an RBI while scoring twice.

In the circle, freshman Destin Vicknair tossed five innings for the win, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out seven batters before sophomore Elizabeth Delafield (1.0 inning, 1 hit allowed) and freshman Kayla Davidson (1.0 inning, 2 strikeouts) wrapped up the final two innings.

The second game saw four home runs, two coming off the bat of freshman Raven Cole – who also picked up the complete game victory.

Cole finished 2-4 at the plate with five RBIs and two home runs, including a grand slam, while scoring twice. In the circle, she tossed five innings and allowed just five hits and two runs while striking out six batters.

Boulet finished 2-4, scoring three times and connecting on a homer of her own, while fellow freshmn Danielle Cruickshank also sent a shot over the fence while finishing the game 2-3 with three RBI, a walk and two runs scored.

Clark added two doubles, finishing 3-3 with an RBI, walk and a run scored, while Nolan tallied two more hits and another RBI while scoring twice in the game two victory.

Covington (run scored) and freshmen Katie Flowers (run scored) and Ginny Daggett each notched a hit in the second game, while freshman Camile Quebodeaux (0-1) also drove home an RBI.

The Lady Bengals return home on Wednesday when they open their 2014 home schedule with a doubleheader against Alvin Community College slated to for a 1 p.m. start. Wednesday's doubleheader will be the first of five series and 10 total games LSU Eunice will play at home over an 11-day stretch.
