Lady Bengals eclipse 40-win mark with sweep over Baton Rouge on Thursday

The LSU Eunice softball team posted 25 total runs in a doubleheader sweep on the road against Baton Rouge Community College on Thursday, winning game one 12-0 before a 13-0 victory in game two.

The Lady Bengals (41-1) became the first NJCAA Division II team to reach the 40-win mark on the season, tallying 26 hits and seven home runs in the victories.

In the opener, the visitors jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first three innings.

Taylor Boulet and Dani Cruickshank each notched three hits, while Raven Cole collected two hits and the Lady Bengals saw Brooke Clark (RBI), Emily Nolan, Destin Vicknair, Carey Alexis and Morgan Tauzin each add a hit.

Cruickshank notched two doubles and a home run while totaling three RBIs, while Alexis (3RBIs), Tauzin (RBI), Cole (2 RBIs) and Nolan (2 RBIs) all collected homers as well.

Vicknair earned win No. 18 of the year, tossing four innings and allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters before Elizabeth Delafield came on to finish out the final inning, recording a strikeout.

Alexis got the scoring started in the second inning with her three-run homer before Tauzin followed with a solo shot of her own moments later. Cruickshank delivered her three-run homer in the third frame, while Cole and Nolan each hit two-run homers in the fourth inning that also saw an RBI single from Clark.

The second game saw Camille Quebodeaux notch three hits, while Boulet (RBI), Cruickshank (homer, 4 RBI) and Ginny Daggett (RBI) all collected two hits. Vicknair (homer, 2 RBIs) and Katie Flowers (double, RBI) each added a hit, while Nolan (0-2) and Brittany Johnson (0-1) each collected an RBI as well.

Cole collected win No. 18 of her own, tossing three innings and allowing just two hits while striking out five batters before Kayla Davidson pitched the final two innings, striking out two batters.

The Lady Bengals are back in action at home next Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. against Holmes Community College.
