Lady Bengals explode for 33 runs, 41 hits and six homers in Thursday wins

The LSU Eunice softball team collected 41 hits and scored 33 runs in 11 innings to grab a pair of wins in their first day of action in the Northwest Florida Tournament on Thursday afternoon, defeating Lake Michigan Community College 20-0 before a 13-1 victory over Darton College.

The top of the Lady Bengal (22-1) lineup combined to go 26-for-33 at the plate in the two games, as Codi Covington, Taylor Boulet, Brooke Clark and Emily Nolan finished with 23 total RBIs, six doubles and five home runs between the group.

In the opener against Lake Michigan, Clark finished 5-for-5 with seven RBIs, including a double and a home run, to pace the offense, while Boulet wasn't far behind, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three doubles.

Abby Ohlin tallied a 3-for-3 game with an RBI, while Nolan, Dani Cruickshank and Katie Flowers each finished with two hits and an RBI. Destin Vicknair finished with a hit and three RBI, while Covington and Brittany Johnson each tallied a hit and RBI. Ginny Daggett added a hit as well.

Elizabeth Delafield earned the win in the circle, tossing the first three innings and allowing just two hits and striking out one batter before Kayla Davidson wrapped up the final two innings, striking out five while allowing one hit.

The runs began in the top of the first when Covington led off the game with a solo home run, while Vicknair's sacrifice fly plated a run as did Cruickshank's RBI single in the opening frame.

Boulet and Vicknair each notched two-run doubles, while Nolan and Flowers each had RBI singles, in the second inning before Clark connected on her two-run homer in the third inning.

The fourth inning saw RBI singles from Ohlin, Clark and Johnson before Clark capped the scoring with her grand slam in the fifth inning.

Against Darton, the offense was much of the same, as Clark again led the attack, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a homer.

Covington (2 RBIs, double, homer), Boulet (2 RBIs, double) and Nolan (3 RBIs, homer) each tallied 3-for-5 hitting lines, while Raven Cole (RBI, homer) and Carey Alexis (RBI) each notched two hits. Vicknair's lone hit was a double, Flowers added a single and Ashley Subervielle (0-2) added an RBI.

Cole picked up the win, tossing four innings and allowing four hits, one run and two walks while striking out five batters before Johnson finished the game off by pitching the fifth.

The scoring began in the first with Boulet's RBI double, Nolan's run-scoring single and Subervielle's sacrifice fly RBI.

Clark connected on a two-run homer in the second, Covington hit a two-run homer of her own in the four and Cole knocked a solo homer in the fifth before the sixth inning saw a two-run homer from Nolan and RBI singles from Alexis, Boulet and Clark.

The Lady Bengals continue tournament play on Friday, facing Darton for a second time in their morning contest at 9 a.m. eastern (8 a.m. central) before an afternoon game against Wabash Valley College at 11 a.m. eastern (10 a.m. central) wraps up their second day action.
