Hot bats return as Lady Bengals grab three wins Saturday
The LSU Eunice softball team wrapped up its weekend in Florida with three wins on Saturday to finish 7-0 overall over three days in the Northwest Florida Tournament.
The Lady Bengals (27-1) scored 32 runs on 41 hits in the three Saturday wins, including 20 total runs in the first two innings of the three games
They began the day with a 9-3 victory over Southeastern Iowa Community College before a 15-1 win over Lansing Community College and an 8-2 victory over tournament-host Northwest Florida State College in their final game of the afternoon.
In the opener against Southeastern Iowa, Carey Alexis led the way at the plate with three hits, while Codi Covington tallied two hits and an RBI of her own with both players collecting a double.
Taylor Boulet notched two hits, while Camille Quebodeaux, Brooke Clark, Emily Nolan, Elizabeth Delafield, Ashley Subervielle, Morgan Tauzin and Caitlen Blanchard all added a hit. Clark, Nolan and Blanchard all collected an RBI as well.
Destin Vicknair earned the win, tossing the opening four innings and allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out six batters before Delafield finished the final three innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out six batters of her own.
The Lady Bengal scoring began in the top of the first with Nolan's RBI double before they added five runs in the second inning on an RBI double from Covington, an RBI single from Clark and plating two more runs on a Southeastern Iowa error.
Covington added to the lead with her RBI single in the fourth before Quebodeaux notched an RBI single of her own in the seventh along with Blanchard's RBI double.
Against Lansing, the Lady Bengals scored at least two runs in each of the first five innings, including nine runs in the opening two frames.
Clark finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, while Abby Ohlin collected three hits, four RBIs and a double in the win.
Alexis, Vicknair (double) and Ginny Daggett all notched two hits of their own, while Quebodeaux (RBI), Nolan (RBI, triple), and Brittany Johnson (two RBIs) each finished with one hit.
Kayla Davidson got the win in the circle following her five inning complete game, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out one batter.
In the first inning, LSU Eunice jumped comfortably ahead with five runs via RBI singles by Nolan and Daggett, along with a two-run single from Vicknair and an RBI double from Ohlin.
Nolan collected an RBI triple in the second innings, while Vicknair added an RBI double, Ohlin notched an RBI single and Daggett brought home a run when she reached on a fielder's choice.
Dani Cruickshank (0-4) brought home a run when she reached on a fielder's choice in the third, while Ohlin tallied another RBI single in the frame. Johnson brought home a run with her sacrifice fly in the fourth, while Katie Flowers (0-2) reached on a fielder's choice and plated a run as well.
Quebodeaux collected an RBI with her sacrifice fly in the fifth before Johnson finished the game's scoring with her RBI single later in the frame.
Against Northwest Florida, Covington and Vicknair (RBI) each tallied three hits to pace the offense, while Raven Cole finished with two hits, both home runs, and five RBIs.
Clark (RBI), Nolan (RBI), and Flowers each added a hit as well.
Cole pitched a complete game in the circle for the win, tossing seven innings and allowing just four hits and two runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out seven batters.
Vicknair plated the first run of the game when she reached on a fielder's choice in the first before Cole connected on a three-run homer later in the frame. Clark added a RBI single in the second inning and Nolan notched an RBI single of her own in the fourth before Cole wrapped up the afternoon with her two-run homer in the fifth.
LSU Eunice returns to action next Thursday with a road doubleheader at Bossier Parish Community College slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. starts before they return home for the first time in nearly a month on Thursday, March 20 when Independence Community College visits Eunice.
