Box Score

The LSU Eunice baseball team saw Chipola College erase a four-run deficit for an 8-4 victory on Sunday afternoon in Florida, giving Chipola a 3-1 series win.

For the Bengals (16-4), the loss marks the first time they have lost a series of three-plus games since May 7 and 8, 2010, when they were swept in three games on the road against San Jacinto Community College. It is also the longest losing streak for the Bengals since that same season when they dropped four consecutive contests.

On Sunday against Chipola (20-5), the Bengals finished with just four hits for the second straight game, but they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two runs in the opening inning and single runs in the top of the second and third frames.

Chipola responded with five runs in their half of the third inning to take a lead they would not relinquish before they added three runs in the eighth for the final score.

Brennan Bozeman, Kyle St. Pierre, Tyler Chapman and Ray Veit each notched a hit, as St. Pierre and Chapman both drove home an RBI and Jordan Romero (0-2) collected two RBIs in the loss.

LSU Eunice starter Zach Hamilton was saddled with the loss after not getting through the third inning, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings.

The Bengals opened the afternoon by getting their opening three batters of the game on base before plating the first run via a Chipola error and adding to the lead with Romero's RBI sacrifice fly scored Bozeman later in the inning.

The visitors added to the lead in the second when Chapman led off the frame with a solo home run and they pushed the lead to four in the third inning on Romero's squeeze bunt that scored Derek Herrington (0-3, 2 walks).

Chipola answered in the bottom of the third, using three doubles, three walks and a single to plate five runs to take the lead before adding to the advantage with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly as part of their three-run eighth inning.

LSU Eunice returns home this weekend when they welcome Murray State College to town for a three-game set beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. in a rematch of last spring's NJCAA Division II National Championship game, a 4-3 win by Murray State.

Friday's series opener can be seen on Bengal All-Access and heard over the airwaves on KVPI 92.5 FM.
