The LSU Eunice softball team grabbed a pair of wins against visiting Northeast Texas Community College on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 10-0 before a 7-5 victory in the second contest to give head coach Andy Lee his 400th career win.

Lee now holds a 400-120 overall coaching record in nine seasons, winning 92 games over three seasons (2006-2008) at Hinds Community College before racking up 308 wins while currently in his sixth season as LSU Eunice head coach. Following Saturday's sweep, Lee now has an .846 winning percentage at the helm of the Lady Bengals.

On Saturday, the Lady Bengals (48-2) outhit Northeast Texas 24-6 in the doubleheader.

"The first game was a well-pitched game, we played good defense, and had a lot of patient at-bats and had a lot of balls fall. It was solid, clean softball. The second game was a little sloppy, but we got a big pinch-hit home run," Lee said of the wins.

They used an eight-run third inning in the opener while sending 13 batters to the plate, as Codi Covington (2 doubles), Brooklynn Clark (double, 2 RBIs), Destin Vicknair (double, home run, 2 RBIs) and Ashley Subervielle (double, 2 RBIs) all collected two hits. Taylor Boulet (1-2) and Emily Nolan (1-2) also added an RBI each.

Vicknair earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing just two hits while striking out six batters.

LSU Eunice got on the board in the first, when Covington led off the inning with a double before scoring on Clark's RBI single. The pair partnered again in the third inning when Covington again opened the frame with a double before Clark brought her home with a run-scoring double of her own.

The big third inning also saw RBI singles from Nolan, Subervielle and Boulet, an RBI groundout by Covington in her second at-bat in the inning, and a two-run homer from Vicknair over the right field wall.

Subervielle capped the game's scoring with an RBI double in the fourth inning.

In the second game, the two teams traded runs early, as Clark led the way with a 3-for-4 outing with a pair of RBIs, as Boulet (double, RBI) and Vicknair (RBI) each collected two hits. Nolan and Dani Cruickshank each added a hit and an RBI, while Carey Alexis (0-1, 2 walks) also tallied an RBI.

Elizabeth Delafield, the second of three Lady Bengals pitchers used, earned the win, allowing two hits and one unearned run while striking out a batter in her two innings of work, while Kayla Davidson was credited with a save after striking out five of the six batters she faced over the final two innings.

Starting pitcher Raven Cole did not factor in the decision, allowing two hits and four runs (2 earned) while walking three and hitting two batters in her three innings of work. Cole added five strikeouts.

Northeast Texas used a leadoff single in the first inning and a passed ball to take the lead in the top of the first inning before the Lady Bengals took the lead in the bottom of the frame with RBI singles from Clark and VIcknair.

The visitors retook the lead on a fielder's choice and then a throwing error on the same play in the top of the second inning before LSU Eunice took the lead back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double from Boulet and RBI singles from Clark and Nolan.

A leadoff walk eventually scored for Northeast Texas in the fourth inning before they used a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth frame to tie the game.

LSU Eunice saw Cruickshank pinch hit and lead off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo homer to right field to give them the lead before Alexis was hit with the bases loaded in the sixth to bring home the final run of the afternoon.

The Lady Bengals are back in action on Thursday when they welcome East Mississippi Community College to town for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. with the second game to follow.

Thursday's doubleheader can be seen on Bengal All-Access.
