Box Score 2 The LSU Eunice baseball team split its midweek doubleheader against visiting Bossier Parish Community College on Tuesday afternoon, dropping the first game 3-2 before a 12-2 victory in the second game.
The Bengals (33-11) scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in the first game before Bossier Parish (18-30) scored three runs in the top of the sixth to come away with the win in the opener. The second game saw LSU Eunice score two runs in both the first and third innings and four runs in the fourth and fifth frames in the win.
"The first game we hit a lot of balls right at them. The second game I thought our hitters continued to do what they did in the first game. It was important for us to get a win like this. A lot of times we have had leads that we haven't really extend, and that we have sat on those, and tonight we extended on the lead," head coach Jeff Willis said.
"For the most part, I haven't seen our players compete as well as they competed today. We want to see our guys show up and compete. Win or lose, we want to compete every single pitch in all facets of the game."
In the opener, Stefan Trosclair and Derek Herrington each collected two hits, with Trosclair notching a pair of triples and driving in both runs. Brennan Bozeman, Sam Walley, Tyler Chapman and Kyle St. Pierre all added a hit.
Bengal reliever Jevin Huval (4-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing the go-ahead run to score after coming on in relief in the sixth inning. Huval finished with 1 1/3 innings pitched, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out two batters and allowing the run.
Starter Zach Hamilton did not factor into the decision after tossing 5 2/3 innings, allowing two hits on five hits and a walk.
LSU Eunice took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Herrington and Bozeman collected back-to-back singles and Trosclair brought both home with his second triple of the night.
Bossier Parish answered in the sixth, with a leadoff triple that scored on a sacrifice fly before a two-run single later in the inning gave the visitors the lead for good.
The second game saw five Bengals finish with multiple hits, as Ray Veit collected three hits and two RBIs, while Bozeman (RBI), Trosclair (RBI, home run), Mason Nickens (3 RBIs) and Jordan Romero (RBI, double) each finished with two hits. Wally (1-3) added a double and an RBI as well.
Ryan Domingue (3-0) earned the win out of the bullpen, allowing two hits over his 1 2/3 innings of relief. Starter Hayden Marze tossed 3 1/3 innings and allowed four hits, walked five, struck out five and allowed two runs.
The Bengals got on the board in the first on a pair of RBI sacrifice flies, from Trosclair and Romero, before adding to the lead in the third on Trosclair's solo homer and Walley's run-scoring double.
Bossier Parish plated both runs in the top of the fourth inning on three hits, but LSU Eunice responded with four runs in the fourth and fifth frames. In the fourth, Bozeman and Trosclair collected RBI singles and Nickens added a run on his sacrifice fly, while the fifth inning saw two-run singles by Veit and Nickens to close the night.
