Reeves' strong outing pushes Bengals past Baton Rouge Saturday afternoon
Box Score The LSU Eunice baseball team saw starting pitcher Chad Reeves toss eight innings of three-hit baseball as the Bengals grabbed a 7-0 victory over visiting Baton Rouge Community College on Saturday afternoon.
Reeves' performance added to his national-best win total as he recorded victory No. 9 on the season while striking out eight batters, holding Baton Rouge (15-27) at bay while the Bengals (27-7) offense collected nine hits and 10 walks in the contest.
Brennan Bozeman and Madison Nickens each finished 2-for-5 at the plate, as Madison Nickens collected two RBIs and Bozeman drive home a run of his own. Gabe Roberts (RBI), Stefan Trosclair, Mason Nickens, Jordan Romero and Derek Herrington each tallied one hit, while Kyle St. Pierre (0-4) finished with two RBIs and Tyler Chapman (0-0, 3 walks) also notched an RBI.
The Bengals jumped on the board in the second inning when Chapman walked and later scored on Roberts' sacrifice fly before a four-run fourth frame that saw Madison Nickens' tally a two-run single, St. Pierre draw a bases loaded walk and Chapman bring home a run with a sacrifice fly of his own.
In the fifth inning, Herrington reached on a two-out single before stealing second and scoring on Bozeman's RBI single to right field. Trosclair walked in the eighth inning before swiping second and third base and scored on an RBI groundout from St. Pierre.
The Bengals and Baton Rouge Community College wrap up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon with a scheduled 3 p.m. game in Baton Rouge.
