The LSU Eunice softball team split a midweek doubleheader on the road against LSU Alexandria Wednesday afternoon, losing game one 9-8 to snap their 28-game winning streak before bouncing back with a 2-0 victory in the second game.

"It wasn't our best day. That's a really good team, but we just came out flat. When you do that against good ball clubs they will expose you and make it hurt," head coach Andy Lee said.

The Lady Bengals (46-2) finished with 13 hits in the first game, but saw a pair of LSU Alexandria hitters combine to drive in eight RBIs.

Codi Covington (two doubles) led LSU Eunice with three hits, while Brooke Clark (double) tallied two hits to notch the only milti-hit games, as Covington and Katie Flowers (1-3) each collected two RBIs and Emily Nolan (1-3), Elizabeth Delafield (0-1) and Carey Alexis (1-2) all finished with one RBI.

Starting pitcher Destin Vicknair was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in just 1 2/3 innings while allowing six hits.

LSU Alexandria used a three-run home run in the bottom of the first before the Lady Bengals cut into the deficit in the top of the second inning on Alexis' RBI single. The hosts pushed the lead higher in the bottom of the second via a sacrifice fly and a ground out before LSU Eunice cut the lead to just one in the top of the third after a RBI double from Covington and a two-run single from Flowers only to see LSU Alexandria collect a three-run triple in the bottom of the four to push their lead back to four.

LSU Eunice used a squeeze bunt from Delafield in the fourth inning and LSU Alexandria plated a run with an infield hit in the fifth to set up the top of the sixth for the Lady Bengals, when Covington brought home a run with a double and Flowers added a run on a sacrifice fly.

The Lady Bengals cut the lead to one in the top of the seventh on Nolan's RBI single but left the bases loaded to end the game.

The second game saw LSU Eunice collect six hits and plate both runs in the fourth to hold on for the win, as Covington, Alexis, Nolan, Raven Cole and Ginny Daggett each collected one hit.

Cole earned the win, allowing six hits and five walks while striking out 11 batters in her complete game.

In the fourth, Cole gave the Lady Bengals the lead with her RBI single before Daggett brought home the second run when she reached moments later on a fielder's choice.

LSU Eunice is back in action on Saturday when they host Northeast Texas Community College in a doubleheader beginning at noon with the second game to follow.

Saturday's doubleheader can be seen on Bengal All-Access.
