Bengal season ends with a loss to Jones County Saturday night

The LSU Eunice baseball team fell 5-1 to Jones County Junior College in a Region 23 Tournament elimination game Saturday night, ending the Bengals' 2014 season.

The Bengals (42-13) tallied just five hits and drew two walks while leaving six runners on base in the loss, scoring their lone run in the top of the first while collecting a pair of hits.

Jones County (45-10) finished with 12 hits and drew three walks, also leaving 11 runners on base.

LSU Eunice starter Zach Hamilton (3-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing nine hits and all five runs in the opening 3 2/3 innings before Ryan Domingue (2 2/3 innings, 1 hit) and Jevin Huval (1 2/3 innings, 2 hits) shut down Jones over the final frames.

Derek Herrington, Brennan Bozeman (double), Stefan Trosclair (double, RBI), Mason Nickens and Gabe Roberts each finished with a hit in the loss.

Jones starter Chase Hensley tossed a complete game in the win, while four Jones hitters finished with two hits in the game.

In their final game as Bengals, Herrington and Trosclair helped LSU Eunice to their lone run in the top of the first inning when Herrington led off the game with a single before Trosclair later brought him home with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Jones County took the lead in the bottom of the first via three hits, first tying the game on a fielder's choice ground ball and taking the lead on an RBI single. They pushed the lead higher with a leadoff, solo homer in the second inning and scored two final runs in the fourth with a two-out, two-run single.
