Hot shooting MGCCC runs past Lady Bengals

EUNICE – Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College nailed 14 three-pointers as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 98-57 win over LSU Eunice on Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 25-10 first quarter lead as KaNasha Fairley drained three three-pointers and Markeisha Watson added another long-range shot in the period.
LSUE's Katie Lemeiux scored twice in the lane and Jazmyn Menina chipped in a drive in the lane to close the gap to 11-8 with 3:17 left but the Lady Bulldogs finished the period with a 14-2 run for a 15-point advantage.
LSU Eunice (3-12) responded with a 12-5 run early in the second period, sparked by three-point plays from Becca Brooks and Macy Hoffpauir as the Lady Bengals closed the gap to 27-22 with 4:49 left before intermission.
Fairley answered with two more three-pointers for the Lady Bulldogs before Lemeiux scored in the lane for LSU Eunice.
Watson's trey and an inside shot from Courtney White pushed MGCCC ahead, 40-24 with 2:00 left in the half.
Hoffpauir scored on a put-back and Lemieux drove the lane as the Lady Bengals battled to stay in the game.
But back-to-back treys from Kamisha Tarvin and Shaniqua Tobias in the closing seconds increased the Lady Bulldogs' lead to 46-28 at intermission.
MGCC opened the third period with a 6-4 battle but the Lady Bulldogs exploded on a 15-4 run, sandwiched between buckets from Lady Bengals Amber Richard and Lemieux.
Lemeiux scored two more times late in the third period and Brooks hit a three-pointer with eight seconds left to close the gap to 74-43 as the game moved to the final quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs sealed the win with a 24-14 run in the fourth period, aided by eight points from Kimberly Calhoun.
Lemieux and Richard scored inside and Brooks added two more free throws from a technical foul as the Lady Bengals closed the gap to 81-49 with 5:35 left.
A base line bucket by Brooks, a trey from Sydney Martin and three-point play by Richard closed the margin to 89-57 with 2:01 remaining.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with a 9-0 run including a late trey from Calhoun to push MGCCC to a 98-57 win.
Lemieux led the Lady Bengals with 19 points, while Brooks added 11 points and Richard contributed 10 points.
Fairley led the Lady Bulldogs with 21 points, including five three-pointers.
White chipped in 18 points, followed by Watson (14), Young (10) and Calhoun (10).
LSU Eunice travels to Jones County Junior College Thursday for the final game of 2015.
The Lady Bengals will entertain Roxbury Community College at 6 p.m. on Jan. 12.
