Aggies, Bengals split doubleheader
Box Score LSU Eunice and Murray State College split games on Sunday as the Aggies and Bengals exchanged wins at Bengal Stadium.
LSU Eunice (18-6) earned a 4-1 win the first game of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the victory.
Murray State (16-6) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Andres Ramos walked and scored on Lane Smith's two-out single.
The Bengals tied the game in the bottom of the second when Jordan Romero double to right and touched home plate on a sacrifice fly from Madison Nickens.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when Bengal designated hitter David LaFleur hit a solo home run over the left field wall.
Zach LaFleur singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on Cade Stone's single.
The Bengals moved ahead 4-1 when Nick Coomes reached on an error that allowed Stone to score.
Ben Braymer started the game and struck out six, walked two and allowed one earned run on one hit over six innings.
Zach Hamilton went 1.2 innings as he struck out four and walked one, while Sam Walley (5-1) earned the win as he finished the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and two walks but did not allow a hit or a run.
David LaFleur went 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk, while Stone went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
Murray State 10, LSUE 4
The Aggies rapped 13 hits and scored 10 runs, while the Bengals committed five errors as Murray State capped off the series with a 10-4 win.
The Aggies scored three runs in the top of the third, sparked by three hits and two LSU Eunice miscues that allowed Joseph Sheperd, Ramos and Smith to score.
Murray State added three more runs in the top of the sixth to push ahead, 6-0 including Jamin Lira scoring on a wild pitch and Sheperd crossing on a balk.
The Bengals closed the gap to 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brennan Bozeman singled and scored on Coomes' two-out single to left field.
Murray State added two more runs in the top of the seventh, begun when Fernando Garcia doubled and scored on Cade Carter's single. Carter later scored on a Bengal error as the Aggies grabbed an 8-1 advantage.
The visitors from Oklahoma pushed across two more runs in the top of the eighth inning as Ramos singled and scored on a sacrifice fly, while Smith tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
Trailing 10-1, the Bengals rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth before falling by six runs.
Joe Trahan and David LaFleur singled and Bourque reached on a fielder's choice.
After LaFleur was forced out at second, pinch hitter Trenon Trosclair hit a sacrifice fly to score Trahan.
Bozeman drew a two-out walk and Jesse Lee singled in Bourque to close the gap to 10-3.
Sam Walley then singled to center to plate Bozeman but the Bengals could not push any more runs across in the final inning.
Starter Clay Moffitt was handed the loss as he struck out four, walked one and allowed one earned run on six hits in 5.1 innings of work.
Lee (2-for-3, RBI), Coomes (2-for-5, RBI) and David LaFleur (2-for-4) had multiple hits for the Bengals.
LSU Eunice will entertain Bossier Parish Community College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday before traveling to Tyler Community College on Friday.
