Lady Bengals lose battle at Mississippi Gulf Coast
PERKINSTON, Miss. – Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College pushed out to an eight-point first quarter lead that held up the rest of the way as the Lady Bulldogs grabbed a 63-54 win over LSU Eunice on Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-13 advantage to open the game, while Abby Jolie scored six points for the Lady Bengals and Madelyn Lejeune added four points in the period.
MGCC and LSU Eunice battled for control in the second period as the Lady Bulldogs grabbed a 14-13 advantage for a 35-26 halftime advantage.
Jolie continued her hot shooting for the Lady Bengals with eight points as she hit four three-pointers in the first half.
Becca Brooks hit a trey and Katie Lemieux added two points as LSU Eunice closed the gap to nine points.
The two teams continued to scrap in the third period as the Lady Bulldogs held an 11-9 advantage to take a 46-35 lead into the final quarter.
Brooks and Lejeune hit the only two buckets in the third quarter for the Lady Bengals, while Lemieux nailed five free throws.
LSU Eunice won the last quarter with a 19-17 clash, led by Lemieux's 11 points.
Jolie added two more three-pointers in the period, while Morgan Eddleman chipped in a bucket.
Lemieux led all scorers with 21 points, while Jolie contributed 20 points including six treys.
Kailin Young and Courtney White both scored 15 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Markeisha Watson added 10 points for MGCCC (9-2) who won 98-57 in the first match-up against LSU Eunice (3-14).
The Lady Bengals entertain Roxbury Community College at 6 p.m. Tuesday before visiting Faulkner State Community College at 5:15 p.m. Friday in LSU Eunice's final non-conference clash of the season.
