Lady Bengals Collect Two Key Wins

LSU Eunice extended their softball win streak to 12 games with a doubleheader sweep over NJCAA Division II powers Cowley College and Jones County Junior College Saturday at Lady Bengal Field.
In the 9-3 win over Cowley, the No. 10-ranked Lady Bengals jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the second and added four more in the fifth frame as four LSU Eunice batters hit home runs in the game.
Molly Wilson homered to begin the LSU Eunice scoring, while Alli Daigle and Jessica Thomas both walked before Jaci Lavigne homered to left field to give the Lady Bengals a 4-0 lead.
LSU Eunice loaded the bases as Maddie Edmonston and Jeanmarie Angelle were hit pitches and Darby Bishop walked before Edmonston scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Tigers closed the gap to 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning, begun when Brandi Nowak singled and scored on Alex Holzman's hit to short.
Cowley's Carly Gum also singled and scored on Jolona Shield's hit to center as the Lady Tigers fought to make the game close.
But the Lady Bengals put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the frame to give LSU Eunice a 9-3 margin.
Rebecca Skains singled and Wilson walked before Thomas cleared the bases with a home run over the left field wall and Jordan Hartman added a solo homer at the next at-bat to extend the margin to seven runs.
Cowley scored a run in the top of the seventh when Emilee Baker walked and scored on a sacrifice, but back-to-back ground outs slammed the door on the Lady Tiger comeback attempt.
Hannah Vidillier earned the win as she struck out two, walked two and allowed three earned runs on seven hits.
Jordan Dougherty closed the game and did not allow a hit in the seventh inning.
Lavinge led the Lady Bengals with a 2-for-3 outing including three RBI and a run scored.
Edmonston went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Thomas went 1-for-2 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored.
Skains went 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Wilson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and two runs scored.

Lady Bengal pitcher Abigail Leonards threw a no-hitter through five innings and earned the complete-game win over No. 7 Jones County as the Lady Bengals jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held on in the  Lady Bobcats' two-run rally in the seventh inning.
The Lady Bengals opened with a 1-0 lead as Edmonston singled and scored on Bishop's hit to centerfield in the bottom of the first inning.
LSU Eunice added a run in the bottom of the third inning when Angelle reached on an error and scored when Alli Daigle later hit a bases-loaded single to right field.
The Lady Bengals exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fifth, begun when Bishop singled and pinch runner Mallory Perrault scored on a sacrifice fly by Wilson.
Skains singled and scored on a single to right by Daigle, while the Lady Bengal second baseman scored on Jessica Thomas' pinch-hit double to right field.
LSU Eunice added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Abby Mondy reached on an error and scored on Bishop's ground-out to first base.
Trailing 6-0, Jones County battled in the top of the seventh as the Lady Bobcats, sparked when Brittany Baty singled, Natalie Hogue reached on a fielder's choice and both scored but the Lady Bengal defense stiffened and stopped JC's threat.
Leonards earned the complete-game win as she struck out two, walked one and allowed two earned runs on three hits.
