Lady Bengals Hold Off Chattanooga Rally

GULF SHORES, Alabama – The Lady Bengals jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Chattanooga State Technical Community College but then had to hold on for 7-5 win over the Lay Tigers in the second game of the Sun Chief Classic.
Maddie Edmonston was hit by a pitch to begin the game, Jeanmarie Angelle then reached on an error and Darby Bishop drove in two runs with a double to left field.
Rebecca Skains singled and Savannah LeJeune followed with a two run double as the Lady Bengals led, 4-0.
LSU Eunice added a run in the top of the third when LeJeune advanced on a fielder's choice and later scored when Bobbi Smith reached base with two outs.
Jordan Roberts hit a solo home run as CSTCC closed the gap to 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
The Lady Tigers pulled closer with two runs in the bottom of the fifth frame, begun when Devan Brown singled and scored on a Lady Bengal error.
Roberts walked and later scored on a ground out by Shannon Plese as Chattanooga closed the gap to 5-3.
The Lady Bengals added two much-need insurance runs in the top of the sixth, aided by back-to-back singles from Angelle and Bishop.
LeJeune singled in Angelle, while Bishop scored on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Vidillier.
CSTCC battled in the bottom of the seventh in an attempt to steal the win over LSUE, scoring two runs before the Lady Bengal defense stiffened to stop the threat.
Kayla Logoleo singled and later tagged up to score on Courtney Styles' fly out to right field.
Plese singled and scored on a two-out double to center by Jennah McElheney, but Madison Kurtz lined out to first base to end the game.
Abigail Leonards earned the complete-game win as she struck out two, walked two and allowed three earned runs on nine hits.
LeJeune went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Bishop finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Skains went 2-for-4 with a RBI.
The Lady Bengals are set to conclude Friday's action against Gadsden State Community College.
