Lady Bengals Rally for 4-3 Win Over Gadsden

GULF SHORES, Ala. - LSUE (17-1) held an early lead over Gadsden State Community College but then had to rally to earn a 4-3 win Friday in the third game of the Classic
The Lady Bengals earned a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Molly Wilson and Jaci Lavigne both singled and scored on a double to left by Jessica Thomas.
The Lady Cardinals grabbed a 3-2 advantage in the top of the third begun when Madison Shanks belted a solo home run.
Katie McGinnis walked and later scored on a two-out triple by Sacrlett Hester to tie the game.
Gadsden moved ahead by a run as Hester touched home plate on a single by Tiffany Williams.
The Lady Bengals retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth as the rally begun with a single to left by Thomas and a bunt from Maddie Edmonston.
Mary Guillory hit a sacrifice to score courtesy runner Olivia Gabor to tie the game, 3-3.
Darby Bishop reached on an error that allowed Edmonston to score the go-ahead run.
After allowing three runs in the fourth, the Bengal defense stiffened for three shut-out innings to preserve the win.
Savannah Gates earned the win as she struck out six, walked one and allowed three earned runs on five hits over six innings of work.
Jordan Dougherty sealed the victory as she forced a ground-out and then struck out the final two batters in the top of the seventh inning.
Thomas went 2-for-2 with two RBI to spark the Lady Bengal bats.
LSU Eunice concludes the Sun Chief Classic on Saturday with games against Snead State Community College at 9 a.m. and Walters State College at 11:15 a.m.
