Lady Bengals Rally Past Hinds For 8-5 Win

RAYMOND, Miss. – The LSU Eunice Lady Bengals rallied for five unanswered runs to earn an 8-5 win in Thursday's opening game at Hinds Community College.
LSU Eunice (19-2) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Jeanmarie Angelle walked and scored on Rebecca Skains' single to right field.
The Lady Eagles (3-8-1) exploded for three runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Gabby Franklin singled and advanced home when Meghan Duchesme's reached on a double.
Duchesme scored on Di'mon Brown's hit to center, while Bre Glenn was hit by a pitch and advanced home on Alaynna Myers' single up the middle.
The Lady Bengals closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the second as Jaci Lavigne hit a two-out double and scored on Maddie Edmonston's two-base hit to centerfield.
Hinds moved ahead 5-2 with two more runs in the bottom of the third as Kaitylnn Dardar doubled and Myers belted a home run over the centerfield fence.
LSU Eunice closed the margin to two runs in the top of the fourth as Jessica Thomas doubled and scored on Hope Vizinat's double to left field.
The Lady Bengals then took a 6-5 advantage with three runs in the fifth frame, begun when Darby Bishop singled and crossed home plate on Skains' double to center.
Thomas reached on a fielder's choice and Vizinat singled in Skains, while courtesy runner Mary Guillory advanced home on the throw as the Lady Bengals regained the lead.
LSU Eunice added two insurance runs in the sixth, begun when Edmonston bunted and later scored on Bishop's single up the middle.
Skains advanced on back-to-back errors and then scored when Molly Wilson reached on the third Lady Eagle miscue of the inning.
Jordan Dougherty earned the win as she struck out two in two shut-out innings. Starter Abigail Leonards struck out five and allowed five earned runs on seven hits over five innings.
Bishop went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, while Skains went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Vizinat finished 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Edmonston went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
