Lady Bengals hold off Lady Bears For Win

SUMMIT, Miss. – LSU Eunice jumped out to a 7-2 lead and then had to hold off a late Southwest Mississippi Community College surge as the Lady Bengals earned an 8-6 win over the Lady Bears.
LSU Eunice (22-2) grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second inning, begun when Bobbi Smith bunted her way on base and scored as Alli Daigle grounded out to the pitcher.
Hope Vizinat reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on Maddie Edmonston's hit to left field.
The Lady Bengals added two more runs in the top of the third on back-to-back home runs by Darby Bishop and Rebecca Skains.
The Lady Bears closed the gap to 4-1 with a run in the bottom of the frame when McKenzie Brock bunted and later scored on a passed ball.
Southwest added another run in the bottom of the fifth innng when Macy Fulton reached on a fielder's choice and scored to close the margin to 4-2.
LSU Eunice exploded for three runs in the top of the sixth, begun when Vizinat singled and pinch runner Olivia Gabor scored as Vidillier reached on an error.
Pinch runner Abby Mondy then scored as Edmonston reached on another Lady Bear miscue before crossing home plate on a Lady Bear throw.
Southwest added a run in the bottom of the inning when Austin Pruitt walked and later scored to close the gap to 7-3.
The Lady Bengals added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Molly Wilson walked and scored on Vizinat's single to right field.
The Lady Bears rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Brock singled and scored on Jessie Penton's hit up the middle.
Jana McEwen singled and scored on a Lady Bengal throw, while Pruitt doubled and scored on a passed ball before the Lady Bengal defense stiffened for the final two outs.
Jordan Dougherty earned the win as she struck out three, walked one and allowed three earned runs on seven hits over six innings.
Abigail Leonards closed the game as she struck out one and allowed one run on two hits.
Angelle went 3-for-4, while Skains and Vizinat went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
The Lady Bengals closed their Mississippi series Saturday with a double header at Holmes Community College.
