Lady Bengals Storm Past BRCC

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – LSU Eunice broke open a close game with 14 runs in the seventh inning as the Lady Bengals rolled to a 19-3 win over Baton Rouge Community College in the final game of the Pearl River softball tournament Saturday.
Holding on to a 5-3 margin as the game moved to the top of the seventh, LSU Eunice's offense then exploded, begun when Bobbi Smith walked and scored on a double by Rebecca Skains, who scored on a single by Hope Vizinat.
Jaci Lavigne bunted her way on base and Hannah Vidillier reached on a fielder's choice to keep the inning going.
Jessica Thomas singled in Lavigne, while Maddie Edmonston's double plated Vidillier and Thomas for a 10-3 LSU Eunice advantage.
Hartman singled, Bobbi Smith walked and the Lady Bengal duo scored when Skains doubled to centerfield.
The Lady Bengals increased their lead to 14-3 when Vizinat  reached on a two-out error that allowed Skains to score from second base.
Lavigne walked and Vidillier followed with a single to plate Vizinat for a 15-3 advantage.
Bertot then singled in Vizinat before Jessica Thomas cleared the bases with a home run to complete the 19-3 romp.
BRCC opened with a 1-0 lead when Morgan Berry was hit by a pitch and scored when Megan Smith doubled to centerfield.
The Lady Bears pushed ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the second when Royell Cobb doubled and scored on a sacrifice by Berry.
LSU Eunice rallied to grab a 3-2 lead in the top of the third, begun when Thomas walked and later courtesy runner Mallory Perrault scored on a sacrifice fly by Darby Bishop.
Maddie Edmonston bunted her way on base and scored on a hit by Skains.
Jeanmarie Angelle singled to left and scored when Vizinat grounded out to second base.
BRCC tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Michala Hughes singled and crossed home plate on Cobb's triple.
The Lady Bengals retook the lead for good in the top of the fifth as Darby Bishop's home run lifted LSU Eunice to a 4-3 advantage.
The Lady Bengals increased their lead to 5-3 in the top of the sixth when Lavigne singled and scored on Edmonston's hit to centerfield.
Vidiller started the game and she struck out one and allowed three earned runs on five hits over three innings.
Abigail Leonards earned the win as she struck out three, walked two and scattered just one hit over four innings.
Edmonston went 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Skains went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Jessica Thomas finished 3-for-3 with a walk, four RBI and two runs scored.
Bishop went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored, while Lavigne went 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Bertot finished 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored.
LSU Eunice's doubleheader home opener is set for 1 p.m. Thursday against Faulkner State Community College.
