Lady Bengals' Rally Falls Short at BRCC

BATON ROUGE – After opening Miss-Lou Conference play with two wins, the Lady Bengals dropped their second straight contest Saturday as Baton Rouge Community College grabbed a 55-49 win.
LSU Eunice (6-17, 2-2) will entertain Southern University-Shreveport at 6 p.m.  Wednesday.
The Lady Bears opened the game with a 10-7 lead, limiting the Lady Bengals to five points from Amber Richard and a bucket by Katie Lemieux.
BRCC (9-13, 3-1) pushed ahead 20-15 at the break with a 10-8 surge in the second period, led by four points from Cecilia Sterling.
Lemieux led the Lady Bengals with five points including her only three-pointer of the game, while Morgan Eddleman added a trey to close the Lady Bears' lead to five points at intermission.
LSU Eunice fought back with a 16-14 battle in the third period, sparked by 11 points from Becca Brooks.
Madelyn LeJeune and Macy Hoffpauir added bucket s for the Lady Bengals who trailed by three points as the game moved to the final period.
Baton Rouge sealed the win with a 21-18 fourth quarter run, aided by eight points from Amber Smith and seven more from Sterling.
Brooks and LeJeune both scored six points in the period for the Lady Bengals, while Lemieux added four in the period and Hoffpauir chipped in another bucket.
Brooks finished with 17 points, including five three pointers, all in the second half.
Lemieux contributed 12 points, while LeJeune finished with eight points.
Sterling led BRCC with 18 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.
