Lady Bengals Cap Tourney With 14-4 Win

NICEVILLE, Florida – LSU Eunice completed a successful week as the Lady Bengals earned NJCAA Division II softball's top ranking and capped a 10-0 run with a 14-4 mercy-rule win over Darton State College in the final game of the Northwest Florida State College tournament.
The Lady Cavaliers jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, begun as Jade Williams and Brianna Billie singled and Deja Lester walked to load the bases.
Lacy McClellan hit a sacrifice to score Williams, while Savannah Gabriel singled in Lester for a two-run advantage.
The Lady Bengals  (34-2) quickly answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame, sparked by a solo home run from Rebecca Skains.
Jessica Thomas hit a two-out single and Alli Daigle followed with a homer over the right field fence to push the Lady Bengals ahead, 3-2.
Bobbi Smith singled and scored Hope Vizinat's hit to second, while Jeanmarie Angelle walked and crossed home plate on Abby Mondy's single to left as LSU Eunice forged ahead, 5-2.
The Lady Bengals kept the offensive barrage going with four runs in the bottom of the second, aided by a single by Darby Bishop and followed by a home run from Thomas.
Daigle singled and scored on a hit by Angelle, who scored when Vizinat doubled to left field as the Lady Bengals moved ahead, 9-2.
Darton closed the gap to 9-4 in the top of the third as Lester hit a two-out single before McClellan blasted a home run to left field.
LSU Eunice responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as Maddie Edmonston singled and scored on Bishop's double.
The Lady Bengals capped the mercy-rule game with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, begun as Edmonston singled and touched home plate on a double up the middle by Skains.
After Bishop singled, Thomas ended the contest with a three-run home run to centerfield as the Lady Bengals grabbed a 10-run advantage.
Hannah Vidiller earned the win as she walked one and allowed four runs on five hits over three innings of work.
Abigail Leonards threw the last two innings as she scattered three hits but did not give up a run.
Thomas finished 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored with two home runs, while Bishop finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.
Vizinat went 3-for-3 with two RBI, as Daigle went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a home run.
Skains went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a home run, while Edmonston also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Lady Bengals visit East  Mississippi Community College on Saturday for noon doubleheader before entertaining Alvin Community College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader  Sunday.
