Bengals Rally, Explode For 23-12 Win

Entering the bottom of the third inning Sunday, LSU Eunice trailed 7-0 to Eastern Oklahoma State College and the Bengals' record win streak seemed to be in jeopardy.
But top-ranked LSU Eunice responded with a strong showing, including 12 runs in the fourth frame to cruise to a 23-12 mercy-rule win.
The Mountaineers (10-12 took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jace Pitchford led off with a single and  scored as Brennan Dooly grounded out to first base.
Eastern Oklahoma added three more runs in the top of the second as Brett Akins singled, Brock Carter reached on an error and they both scored when Gus Klutts singled up the middle.
Pitchford singled and then crossed home plate on Hunter Wilson's double to left field.
The Mountaineers pushed three more runs across in the top of the third, begun when Hunter Uzzle doubled and scored on Carter's single.
Akins was hit by a pitch, while Klutts reached on a fielder's choice to allow Akins and Carter to score as the Mountaineers forged ahead, 7-0.
The Bengals comeback began in the bottom of the third as LSU Eunice answered to close the gap to 7-3.
Janson Bourque singled, stole second and third and then scored on a wild pitch to begin the rally.
Zach LaFleur walked, advanced to the corner on an errant throw before scoring on Orynn Veillon's  single.
Veillon stole second, advanced on an error and then scored on a wild throw to close the margin to four runs.
Eastern answered with a run in the top of the fourth as Wilson reached on a fielder's choice and scored when Dooly singled to right field.
The Bengals then exploded for 12 runs on 10 hits and took advantage of three Eastern Oklahoma errors to grab a 15-8 advantage.
Hunter Feduccia, Trenon Trosclair and Bourque all singled with one out to load the bases.
LaFleur walked to plate Feduccia and Will Watson followed with a grand-slam to tie the game, 8-8.
Veillon singled, Coomes doubled and they both scored on a wild throw on Francis' single.
Francis crossed home as Fedducia reached on a bunt- error, while Claverie walked and scored on another Eastern error.
Trosclair bunted his way on bases and then Bourque's single also drove in Feduccia and Trosclair as they scored for the second time in the inning.
LaFleur singled, advanced second and then stole third before scoring on a wild pitch to give the Bengals a seven-run margin.
LSU Eunice added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Veillon was hit by a pitch, stole second and later scored on a sacrifice squeeze bunt by Claverie.
Coomes walked and scored when Feduccia reached another error as the Bengals forged ahead, 17-8.
LSU Eunice pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the sixth frame, begun when LaFleur singled and scored on Veillon's hit to left field.
Watson walked and later scored on Francis' sacrifice fly to centerfield as the Bengals' romp continued.
Eastern Oklahoma regrouped to score two runs in the top of the seventh, aided when Akins and Carter were both hit by pitches and Brett Homer reached on a Bengal error.
Brice Smith rapped a pinch hit to drive in Akins, while Carter scored on a ground out to close the gap to 19-10.
The Mountaineers continued to battle with two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, begun when Uzzle hit a two-out single and scored on Carter's hit to left field as Akins scored on Homer's hit to close the margin to 19-12.
The Bengals sealed the win with four runs in the bottom of the eighth, sparked when Francis was hit by a pitch and pinch runner Gavin Bourgeois stole second and scored on Feduccia's double to centerfield.
Claverie walked and crossed home on Trosclair's single.
Bourque concluded the scoring as his double allowed Feduccia and Trosclair to advance and end the game.
Evan Kissinger improved to 3-0 on the season as he earned the win with one strikeout and three hits over 2.2 shutout innings.
Bourque went 5-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Bengal offense, while Veillon went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Trosclair went 3-for-5 with a walk, a RBI and three runs scored, as Feduccia finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored and LaFleur went 2-for-4 with two walks, a RBI and four runs scored.
Watson (1-for-4, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored), Coomes (1-for-4, BB, 2 runs scored) and Francis (1-for-4, 2 RBI and 1 run scored) collected the other Bengal hits.
LSU Eunice is set to visit Centenary College in Shreveport on Wednesday before opening a three game series against Murray State College Friday at 6 p.m.
