Bengals Grab Win At UT-Tyer

TYLER, Texas – Top-ranked LSU Eunice bounced back from a two-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over the University of Texas at Tyler Wednesday night.
 
The Bengals (41-3) exploded for four runs in the top of the first, begun when Zach LaFleur and Will Watson both singled and scored on Nick Coomes' hit to right field.
 
Mark Fontenot singled and scored when Turner Francis grounded out, while Coomes crossed home plate on a ground-out by Hunter Feduccia as  the Bengals led 4-0.
 
LSUE added a run in the top of the second when  LaFleur singled and scored on Fontenot's hit up the middle.
 
The Bengals pushed ahead 6-0 with a run in the top of the third when Coomes singled and scored on a double by Feduccia.
 
UT Tyler closed the gap to 6-2 in the bottom of the third, begun when Michael Caruso was hit by a pitch and scored when Dalton Smith singled
.
Blake Wilson singled and scored on Connor Green's sacrifice fly.
 
The Bengals added two runs in the top of the seventh inning as Watson walked and Coomes blasted a home run over the centerfield fence for a 8-2 advantage.
 
UT Tyler answered with  three runs in the bottom of the frame to pull closer,  8-5.
 
Josh Burns walked and scored on a hit by Josh Anton, while Smith reached on an error before  Kelly Dorsett drove in two runs.
 
The Bengals added an insurance run in the eighth inning as Michael Claverie reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a bunt by Janson Bourque.
 
LSU Eunice pitcher Nathan Lee improved to 6-0 on the season as he struck seven, walked one and allowed two earned runs on five hits in five innings of work.
 
Coomes went 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored, while LaFleur went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
 
Fontenot went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
