Lady Bengals Split Games with NWFSC

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama – Top-ranked LSU Eunice split a doubleheader with Northwest Florida State College Saturday at Robertsdale High School athletic complex.

The Lady Bengals (49-5) won an offensive slugfest 11-10 in the opener before the Lady Raiders (41-6) rolled to an 11-0 win in the finale.

LSU Eunice grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opener when Maddie Edmonston singled and scored on Ali Daigle's sacrifice fly, while Bishop singled and scored on an errant throw.

Northwest Florida responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Hannah Sparks hit a solo home run.
Savannah McHellon walked and Paige Johnson homered to right to push the Lady Raiders ahead, 3-2.

NWFCC then added three more runs in the bottom of the second before LSU Eunice responded with a run in the top of the third inning when Bobbi Smith reached on an error and scored as Hope Vizinat advanced on a fielder's choice.

The Lady Bengals exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth, begun as Savannah Lejeune singled, Vizinat walked and Jaci Lavigne was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Edmonston walked to plate courtesy runner Olivia Gabor, while Rebecca Skains reached on a fielder's choice to keep the rally going.

Bishop singled in Lavigne and Edmonston to tie the game and Daigle followed with a double to drive in Skains and Bishop to push LSU Eunice ahead, 8-6.

The Lady Raiders tied the game in the bottom of the inning, begun as Savannah Smathers walked and scored on a triple by Kristan Lizardi. Tori Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to plate Lizardi to even the game, 8-8.

The Lady Bengals moved ahead in the top of the sixth when Vizinat walked and courtesy runner Mallory Perrault scored on a hit by Edmonston.

NWFCC tied the game again in the bottom of the inning as Johnson doubled and scored when Makenzie Huey flied out to centerfield.

LSU Eunice pushed across two crucial runs in the top of the seventh as Jeanmarie Angelle and Vizinat both walked and scored on hits by Edmonston and Skains.

The Lady Raiders closed the margin to 11-10 in the bottom of the inning as Tori Robinson doubled and scored on McHellon's single up the middle, before the Lady Bengal stiffened to hold on to the win.

Abigail Leonards (one strikeout, four walks, three earned runs, seven hits), Savannah Cates (two strikeouts, two walks, two earned runs, two hits) set the stage for Jordan Dougherty's win as she allowed one run on three hits in the seventh inning.

Edmonston went 3-for-4 with two walks, three RBI and two runs scored, while Skains went 3-for-6 with a RBI and a run scored.

Bishop finished 2-for-3 with three walks, two RBI and two runs scored, as Daigle went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Smith went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

In the finale, the Lady Bengals were limited to three hits (Edmonston, Bishop and Wilson) in the shutout.

Northwest Florida jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first three innings, including a solo home run by Paige Johnson.

The Lady Raiders exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth, aided by home runs by Tori Robinson, Mariana Pereira and Beatriz Cardoza.

Elizabeth Fontenot suffered the loss as she allowed 11 earned runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts.

The Lady Bengals travel to Baton Rouge Community College for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
