Delgado Ends Bengals' Record Win Streak

NEW ORLEANS –The streak is over.
After a 13-5 win for LSU Eunice to open the series, Delgado rolled to a 15-2 victory to end the Bengals' program best win streak at 33 games in a doubleheader Sunday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Delgado  (21-8) and LSU Eunice  (33-1)will meet again at 1 p.m.

The Bengals began the opener with a 1-0 lead as Will Watson singled and scored when Nick Coomes singled to left field.

Daniel Lahare homered in the bottom of the inning as the Dolphins tied the game, 1-1.

The Bengals exploded for four runs in the top of the second inning, begun when Hunter Feduccia doubled and crossed home plate on Janson Bourque's hit up the middle.

Trenon Trosclair reached on a bunt and later scored on a sacrifice by Watson as the Bengals pushed ahead, 3-1.

Bourque also scored on the sacrifice, while Zach LaFleur singled to center and then crossed home plate as Orynn Veillon grounded out to short as the Bengals led, 5-1.

Delgado responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game again, 5-5.

Tyler St. Phillip doubled, Christian Volion walked and both scored on a single to center by Robert Podorsky.

Lahare singled and then scored when Magee grounded out to short as the Dolphins battled back to even the score.

The Bengals retook the lead in the top of the fourth when Bourque singled and scored on LaFleur's single to left field.

LSU Eunice exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth, begun Coomes was hit by a pitch to open the inning and later scored on a hit by Michael Claverie.

Feduccia singled and Bourque walked to load the bases before LaFleur belted a double to drive in three runs.

Watson then reached on an error that allowed LaFleur to score and push the Bengals ahead, 11-5.

LSU Eunice added two insurance runs in the top the seventh as Bourque and LaFleur singled and scored on Coomes' hit up the middle.

LSU Eunice limited the Dolphins to one hit over the last three innings to seal the win.

Bengal starting pitcher Erin Baldwin improved his record to 7-0 on the season as he struck out seven, walked two and allowed three earned runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings.

LaFleur went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Bengals, while Bourque finished 3-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and four runs scored and Feduccia went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Dolphins then stunned the Bengals  with a 15-2 win as Delgado managed 13 hits and scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings.

Delgado jumped out to a 5-0 lead, sparked by three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Robbie Podorsky walked, advanced on a single by Daniel Lahare and scored on Spencer Miller's fielder's choice.

JP LaGreco tripled pushed across Lahare and Miller for a 3-0 Dolphin lead.

Podorsky singled with two outs in the bottom of the second and Lahare followed with a home run to right field as Delgado pushed ahead, 5-0.

Delgado responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame, begun when Dylan Weston singled and scored on a double by St. Phillip.

Toi Jackson walked before Podorsky singled in St. Phillip and Lahare belted his second home run of the game to extend the Dolphins' lead to 10-1.

The Bengals closed the gap to 10-2 in the top of the fourth when Mark Fontenot singled, stole second and scored on Nick Schexnaider's sacrifice fly.

Delgado then sealed the win with five more runs in the bottom of the fourth sparked by singles by Miller and Weston, a two-RBI single by Podorsky as well as a RBI double by Lahare.

Ridge Heisler (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed seven earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 2.2 innings.

Fontenot went 2-for-2 with a run scored as the Bengals were limited to seven hits.
