Bengals Rally Past Tyler Junior College

TYLER, Texas – The top-ranked Bengals scored three runs in the sixth inning as LSU Eunice broke a 1-1 tie to earn a 4-1 win over NJCAA Division III powerhouse Tyler Junior College Saturday night.

After a weather delay, the Bengals (36-1) grabbed the lead, begun when Nick Coomes singled, Turner Francis reached on an error and Michael Claverie singled to load the bases.

Coomes scored on a wild pitch and Hunter Feduccia followed with a double to drive in Francis and Claverie to give LSU Eunice a 4-1 advantage.

The Apaches (28-9) scored first with a run in the bottom of the third when Matt Mikusek singled and advanced home on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Trahan.

The Bengals tied the game in the top of the fifth when Janson Bourque singled, stole second, advanced on a wild throw and scored on Will Watson's ground-out.

Erin Baldwin started the game for the Bengals and he struck out three, walked two and scattered six hits over four innings.

Nick Duthu (3-0) pitched 3.1 innings, striking out two and walked one to pick up the win.

Evan Kissinger and Jacob Barton closed the game on the mound for the Bengals as the Apaches were held hitless  the last five innings.

Feduccia went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI for the Bengals, while Bourque went 2-for-4 with a run scored as LSU Eunice finished with eight hits.

The two teams will battle in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday to complete the three-game series.
