BEAUMONT, Teas – Top-ranked LSU Eunice improved to 48-3 on the season Tuesday night as  the Bengals grabbed a 7-2 win over Wharton County Junior College in a game held at Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont.

Nathan Lee improved to 8-0 on the season with the win as he struck out two, walked two and allowed two earned runs on two hits in three innings of work.

The Bengals used six other pitchers including Ridge Heisler (2 K, 2 hits), Hayden Mixon (2 K), Connor Bates (1 K, 2 hits), Nick Duthu (1 hit), Travis Cliburn (1 K) and Jacob Barton (2 K, 1 hit).

LSU Eunice jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Zach LaFleur was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a hit by Nick Coomes.

Monty Maley homered in the top of the second as Wharton (25-26) tied the game, 1-1.

The Pioneers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the third as Spencer Griffin walked and scored on a hit by  Cory Gallegos.

The Bengals retook a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the frame when Coomes doubled, Turner Francis walked and both scored on a triple to centerfield by Hunter Feduccia.

LSU Eunice added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Claverie singled and scored on a wild pitch.

The Bengals put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, begun when Claverie singled, Trenon Trosclair reached on an error and the duo scored on a Wharton error that allowed LaFleur to reach base.

Mark Fontenot doubled in LaFleur to push the Bengals ahead, 7-2.

Claverie went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Coomes went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored and Feduccia finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Bengals conclude the regular season with a three-game series in Marianna, Florida against  Chipola College at 8 p.m. Friday and a Saturday doubleheader against  Polk State College (11 a.m.) and Gulf Coast State College (2 p.m.).
