ELLISVILLE, Mississippi – The second ranked Bengals' season ended Friday night as LSU Eunice fell 10-2 to top-ranked Jones County Junior College in the Region 23 tournament.
JCJC, the defending NJCAA Division II champion, advanced to the regional title game with a chance to return the world series.
After a scoreless first inning, the Bobcats (46-3) exploded for six runs on three hits the bottom of the second frame.
Jonathan Parker singled before four straight two-out Bobcat walks pushed in the first two runs.
Erick Hoard blasted a grand slam to push JCJC ahead, 6-0.
Fred Franklin hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Bobcats lead to 7-0.
JCJC added two more runs in the top of the fifth, begun when Jacob Hiatt walked and scored on a double by Luther Woullard.
Hudson Harris drove in  Woullard to extend the Bobcats' lead to 9-0.
LSUE (46-11) scored a run in the top of the sixth when on a sacrifice by Michael Claverie (Live Oak) allowed Gavin Bourgeois (Notre Dame) to cross home plate.
The Bengals closed the gap to 9-2 in the top of the seventh when Brent Hebert (Cypress Ranch) singled and scored on a sacrifice by Bo Myers (Zachary).
Jones County sealed the mercy-rule when in the bottom of the inning when Caleb Ledet walked and later scored as Hoard drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the 10-2 Bobcat win.
LSUE was limited to seven hits, led by Bourgeois (2-for-4), Braden Comeaux (Barbe)(1-for-3), Claverie (1-for-2, RBI), Hebert (1-for-3), Cameron Horton (Benton HS) (1-for-3) and Myers (1-for-2, RBI).
The Bengals used five pitchers in the elimination round game, beginning with starter Clay Moffitt (Catholic)(5-2) who was nabbed with the loss.
