Errors Help, Hurt In San Jacinto Softball Split

FRIENDSWOOD, Tx. – LSU Eunice was on both sides of costly errors in a doubleheader split at San Jacinto to conclude a busy season opening weekend.  Miscues hurt the Bengals in an 8-7 Game One loss but helped in a 5-2 Game Two win.

LSUE (3-3) split all three doubleheaders this weekend.

The Bengals return home this upcoming weekend for a four-game series with Crowder College.  The two teams will play a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.  Both twinbills are scheduled to start at 11:00AM.

GAME ONE

Two costly errors dealt LSU Eunice in as the Bengals allowed San Jacinto to score six runs in the sixth to win the opener, 8-7.

LSUE jumped out to a comfortable 6-1 advantage after a five-run third inning.  Madison Monson was the lynchpin in the big frame after doubling home two runs and scoring on a passed ball.  Haley Godeaux and Darian Doucet also chipped in RBIs during the third.

The Bengals held a 7-2 edge until freshmen miscues gave San Jac an opportunity to steal the game. A   pair of errors helped pave the way for that six run frame that included five hits.  LSUE had a chance to tie it up against in the seventh but Hannah Carpenter popped up with two runners on to end the game.

Haley Godeaux led the way offensively with a 3-for-4 game including a RBI, two runs scored and a pair of doubles.

Heather Zumo (2-1) pitched a complete game giving up 11 hits and eight runs but only one of them being earned.  Zumo struck out three batters while issuing just one walk.

GAME TWO

The Bengals turned the tables in Game Two of their doubleheader by capitalizing on a Coyote error to take a 5-2 win.  LSUE exploded for a four-run fifth inning to seal the Bengals' third twinbill split this weekend.

An error on Ally Howard's pop-up to first base scored two go-ahead runs and give LSUE its first lead of the game.  Madison Monson and McKenzie King plated the other two runs in the frame with a RBI double and sacrifice fly, respectively.

Ally Crooks capped off the scoring with an insurance RBI double in the seventh inning.

Kaeleigh Crutchfield turned in her best performance of the weekend.  The freshman settled down after giving up two early unearned runs to throw a complete game.  Crutchfield (1-0) gave up just four hits while striking out three and walking a batter.
