ANGELINA, Tx. – LSU Eunice split a pair of contests over the weekend in the Angelina Thanksgiving Classic on the campus of Angelina College.
The Bengals (3-5) fell to Western Texas College, 71-46, before bouncing back with a win against Southwestern Christian College, 56-54.
Western Texas College, Nov. 23
Miles McDougal led a hot shooting Western Texas College squad past LSU Eunice, 71-46, to open play at Angelina College.
McDougal bucketed a game-high 17 points as the Westerners shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the floor. Western Texas had 11 different players score as they held a 33-18 lead at the halftime break.
LSUE was led by the duo of
Caleb Starks (Lafayette, LA, Lafayette Christian HS) and
Brennan Maddox (Fairview, LA, Fairview HS), both leading the team with 11 points each on the night. Maddox and
Kaedrick Williams (Ruston, LA, Lincoln Prep HS) also pulled down eight rebounds each to pace the Bengals on the glass.
Southwest Christian, Nov. 24
LSU Eunice used a 21-3 run to pave the way towards a 56-54 victory over Southwest Christian College in the final day of the Angelina Thanksgiving Classic.
The Bengals trailed 23-10 with under four minutes to play in the first half but exploded with an 11-3 run to close the half and sit behind, 26-21 at intermission. LSUE would take the lead in the second half as the run continued, piling on a 10-0 spurt out of the locker rooms.
Brennan Maddox paced the Bengals attack with a game-high 19 points. Caleb Starks (11 points) and
Michael Smith Jr. (Lafayette, LA, Comeaux HS) (9 points) helped LSUE hold as high as an eight-point lead in the second half.
Southwestern Christian made it interesting late, pulling even with the Bengals. LSUE's defense was the key as the Bengals held the Rams to 16-for-61 shooting (26.2%) from the field. The Bengals also held a sizable advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Rams 53-38 including a team-high 13 rebounds from
Dwight Simon (New Orleans, LA, Peabody HS).
LSUE returns home to face Strength N' Motion on Tuesday, November 27 for a 6:00PM start time inside the HPRE Center.
