Late Goal Deals No. 11 LSUE Region 23 Setback

EUNICE, La. – After gridlock for virtually the entire game, a late goal delivered No. 11 LSU Eunice a 1-0 heartbreaker decision to Holmes CC in the Region 23 Championship on Friday at the Bengals Soccer Complex.  LSU Eunice finished the season with a 13-3-1 record.

"The difficult part of any season is the end and this is no different because of how special this group is," LSU Eunice women's soccer head coach Ian McGimsey said.  "The sophomores helped build this program from the ground up and the freshman certainly give us hope of continuing to build a standard here at LSUE."

The Bengals held down a Holmes squad that came in as one of the top scoring offensive in the nation for nearly the entire game.  A loose ball in the penalty box was scooped up by Cariel Ellis, who scored her 47th goal of the season in the 82nd minute.

LSUE would even have a chance to tie late as a crossed bounced through the box and just past a few Bengal players.  LSU Eunice's other great scoring opportunity came just before half as Katelyn Knowles sent a left-footed smash that slammed off the crossbar near the back post.

The Bengals part ways with five sophomores from their inaugural team that had a hand in 20 wins and two Region 23 Championship game appearances.
