EUNICE, La. – Several fresh faces on campus led the way for No. 1 LSU Eunice in a 13-5 victory over Paris JC on Friday at Bengal Stadium. Freshmen and transfers combined for 10 of the team's 15 hits while newcomer
Tyler Booth (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) picked up the victory on the mound.
LSUE raced out to a quick 8-1 lead after three innings paced by three RBIs each from
Javier Vaz (Huntsville, AL, Huntsville HS) and
Nick Webre (Youngsville, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS). Webre's run scoring single put the Bengals on the board while Vaz's RBI single capped off a five-run third inning a frame later.
That would be more than enough for Tyler Booth, who would give up a second inning home run before LSUE rattled off its runs. Booth (1-0) would retire six consecutive batters after yielding the run, finishing the night with ten strikeouts while scattering three earned runs on three hits and two walks in 5.1 innings of work.
Slate Fuller (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) and
Jacob Hammond (Monroe, LA, Ouachita HS) relieved Booth, combining for six strikeouts while giving up two earned runs.
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) was another rookie that stood out at the plate, recording three hits including two triples and a double.
Evan Keller (Destrehan, LA, Destrehan HS)r (2-for-2) was the other Bengal to tally a multiple hit game.
LSUE will go for the weekend sweep tomorrow with a 1:00PM Saturday matinee against Paris. Fans can watch the game live on Bengal All-Access and also follow the baseball team's Twitter (@LSUEBengalsBSB), Facebook (@LSUEBaseball) and Instagram (@LSUEBengals) accounts.
