EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice's
Kade Gonsoulin (New Iberia, LA, Catholic-New Iberia HS) and
Tristan Welch (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) turned in a pair of sterling performances to lead the Bengals to a 10-1 victory over Murray State College on Sunday at Bengal Stadium.
Gonsoulin pitched a season's best seven innings to improve to 2-1 on the campaign. The freshman gave up two hits and one walk while striking out three batters. He would retire the side four of the seven innings he threw with his lone earned run coming on a solo home run in a seventh inning.

Welch produced a career tying mark of five RBIs on three hits and scoring one run. The sophomore captain last drove in five runs on May 11, 2018 in a victory over Nunez CC. Welch would drive in the game's first run in the opening inning, followed by a pair of two-run singles in the fifth and seventh innings.
LSUE raced out to a 5-0 advantage after a three-run fifth and would extend it with five unanswered runs to close the game.
Brooks Rushworth (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS),
Evan Keller (Destrehan, LA, Destrehan HS) and
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) would help pace the late surge with run scoring singles.
Hunter Tabb (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) recorded a pair of doubles including driving in Rushworth in the fourth inning.
Jerry Couch (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS) and
Slate Fuller (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.
LSUE will hit the road on Friday to take on Baton Rouge CC for a 6:00PM game. The two teams will alternate home games over the course of the three-game series with the Bengals hosting the Bears on Saturday, March 16 at 6:00PM.
