CHALMETTE, La. - LSU Eunice flexed its offensive prowess in a 21-0 five-inning road shutout of Nunez CC on Friday at Noel Suarez Stadium. The Bengals (38-5) have now scored 38 unanswered runs dating back to an April 15 victory over Baton Rouge CC.
Slate Fuller led the offensive charge with a perfect 3-for-3 contest, driving in six RBIs and scoring twice. Fuller helped LSUE in the first with a two-run single to give the Bengals an early 3-0 edge. The sophomore then blasted a backbreaking fourth inning Grand Slam, part of an eight-run fourth inning, to help the lead swell to 18-0.
Fuller's six RBIs are a career best and tied for the most in a single game this season, tying Tristan Welch's March 26 performance versus Panola College.
LSUE enjoyed two big innings including a seven-run second. Nick Bellina and Javier Vaz highlighted that frame with a pair of two-run singles. The eight-run fourth began as River Town blasted a two-run home run, his team's best eighth of the season.
After the Bengals emptied the bench in the fifth inning, Blade Richard and Hunter Tabb continued the offensive spurt with a RBI single and two-run double, respectively.
Evan Keller was the top hitter in the LSUE lineup, tallying four of the team's 19 base hits. In addition to Fuller's six RBI outing, Town, Tristan Welch, Jack Merrifield, Nick Bellina, Tabb and Vaz had multi-RBI games.
While the offense enjoyed another surgical performance, so did starting pitcher Andrew Sheridan. The sophomore improved to 10-1 on the season after throwing four innings, giving up just four hits and a walk. Sheridan surpassed double-digit victories for the second time in his LSUE career.
Brennan Maddox hurled an inning of no-hit relief, recording a strikeout and walk. The Bengals pitching staff notched their second consecutive shutout victory and the team's ninth of the season.
LSUE continues its three-game series with Nunez on Saturday with a 1:00PM doubleheader. Fans can find more news and information by following the baseball team's Twitter (@LSUEBengalsBSB), Facebook (@LSUEBaseball) and Instagram (@LSUEBengals) accounts.
