No. 1 LSUE Gets Saturday Sweep, Sends Sophomores Out In Style

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice saluted its 12 sophomores in style with a Saturday sweep of Baton Rouge CC at Lady Bengal Field.  The Bengals (44-6) held 'Sophomore Day' festivities during their final home doubleheader of the season.

LSUE used a six-run inning to clinch a 9-0 opener, followed by a come-from-behind 4-2 decision in Game Two.  The Bengals won all nine meetings with BRCC this season, improving to 21-1 at home this season.

The Bengals will close the regular season next weekend with a Texas road trip.

Game 1 vs. Baton Rouge CC – W, 9-0 (5 Innings)
Another gem by Heather Zumo and a six-run final inning were key in LSUE's 9-0 mercy-rule win over Baton Rouge CC.  Zumo captured her 24th career victory at home.

The sophomore improved to 17-2 on the season after giving up just two hits and two walks in 4.2 innings of action.  Zumo also struck out five batters.  Jensen Howell picked up the save getting the final out of the fifth inning before the Bengal offense took over.

LSUE plated two runs in the second inning off a passed ball and Kelci Bodin RBI single.  Abby Trahan would push the lead to 3-0 in the fourth with a sacrifice to plate Morgan Harlow.

The Bengals would bust through in the fifth as Hannah Carpenter and Jensen Howell connected on RBI doubles.  LSUE would load the bases for Abby Trahan who connected on a bases clearing double to end the game.

Trahan four RBIs paced the LSUE attack with Carpenter and Howell each posting multi-hit games.

Game 2 vs. Baton Rouge CC, W, 4-2
LSU Eunice would overcome four errors to grind out a 4-2 victory over Baton Rouge CC to close out the home portion of the 2019 season.

LSUE manufactured three late runs to rally from a 2-1 deficit in the fifth inning.  Mallory Little tied the game in the fifth with a sacrifice groundout to score Sara Tate.  Kelci Bodin would give LSUE the lead an inning later on a sacrifice bunt, followed by a fielder's choice on a Madison Monson infielder grounder to make it a 4-2 Bengals game.

Morgan Harlow produced the other run of the game for the Bengals, doubling home Rylie Candella in the second inning to give LSUE the 1-0 lead.

Hannah Carpenter went a perfect 3-for-3 to pace the nine-hit LSUE offense.
