FULTON, Miss. – LSU Eunice's stay at the Region 23 Tournament came to a close in the finals as the Bengals suffered an 11-2 setback to Pearl River. The Bengals concluded the season with a 51-8 record.
LSUE was first to strike in the opening frame as River Town stroked a lead-off double and Jarrett McDonald scored Town on a double of his own to left center. LSUE would manage just three hits after that inning.
Pearl River would answer in emphatic fashion with eight unanswered runs including a pair of two-run home runs by Dexter Jordan. Jordan was part of an impressive Wildcat offensive display, tallying 14 hits on the day including four from Noah Barron.
Evan Keller would break LSUE's cold snap with a RBI single to right field, scoring Austin Kirkpatrick. Tristan Welch managed the two other LSUE base hits on the day.
Tyler Booth suffered the loss after four innings of work, with Jack Merrifield, Tod Gauthe' and Brennan Maddox each seeing time in relief.
Pearl River will make its first appearance in the NJCAA Division II World Series since 2004.
