Wagner Scores Winner To Help Bengals Escape At Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Tx. – Noah Wagner (Corpus Christi, TX, Veterans Memorial HS) recorded his fifth game-winning goal of the season to lead LSU Eunice to a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville College on Tuesday at Jaguars Field.  The Bengals (7-1) won their third one-goal decision of the season as LSUE improved its current win streak to four matches.

"I'm really proud of how are guys responded to the challenge of playing a very difficult team on the road," LSU Eunice men's soccer coach Josh McReynolds said.  "A shorter field and high line really took away some of our strengths but our team really adjusted well to the circumstances."

LSUE struck first with a powerful run from Albert Ibrahimi (Shipley, England, Shipley College).  The freshman midfielder received a throw-in from Timon Zech (Starnberg, Germany), muscled through the left side of the box before powering a right-footed shot to the backside of the net for this third goal of the season.

The eighth minute goal gave the Bengals a short lived lead as Jacksonville equalized in the 19th minute.

Christian Carrillo (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) kept LSUE alive with another stellar performance in net, making four saves while conceding just his first goal of the season.

Noah Wagner would deliver the heroics in the 63rd minute thanks to a solid defensive effort by Albert Ibrahimi.  Ibrahimi back tracked a soft clearance by Jacksonville's goalkeeper, stealing the ball and passing it off to Igor Castillo-Veliz (Baton Rouge, LA, Woodlawn HS) who found Wagner.  The sophomore would fire off a shot, corral the rebound and finally put it past the Jaguars keeper for his 15th goal of the season.

Wagner's 15 goals are currently ranked third nationally in NJCAA Division I.

LSUE returns home for a Friday doubleheader with Ranger College at the Bengals Soccer Complex.  The men will close out the evening with a first kick slated for 7:00PM.
