No. 2 LSUE Starts 2020 With Bang In 14-2 Rout of North Lake

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice baseball clicked on all cylinders as the Bengals disposed of North Lake College, 14-2, in run-rule fashion on Friday at Bengal Stadium.  LSUE (1-0) improved to 17-1 under head coach Jeff Willis.

LSUE gave a glimpse of what could be in store this season in the first inning alone.  Freshman Simon Miller (Canton, TX, Canton HS) worked a perfect first inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced, before the Bengals connected for five runs off four hits.

20200131-LSUE-Town
LSUE OF River Town

River Town (Zachary, LA, Zachary HS) drove home the first run of the season, bringing in Javier Vaz (Huntsville, AL, Huntsville HS) on a triple.  Javier Vaz (Huntsville, AL, Huntsville HS) and Scott Jones (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) would each plate a run off back-to-back doubles, while Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic) singled and Brady Hebert (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) sacrificed the final two runs of the inning.

Town would picked up where he left off last season, finishing 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs including a second inning home run.

LSUE would manufacture a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings to push its lead to 10-2 before a four-run sixth inning to trigger the seven-inning mercy rule.

Jones and Ayden Makarus (Okatoks, Alberta, Canada, Foothills Composite HS) joined Town with two-hit games, part of a ten-hit barrage for the Bengals.

Simon Miller became the first true freshman to start Opening Day since Joey Bourgeois in 2009.  Miller threw four full innings, giving up two earned runs off two hits while striking out seven and issuing two walks.  Jacob Hammond (Monroe, LA, Ouachita HS) pitched three no-hit relief innings with six strikeouts and three walks.

LSUE will continue its weekend series with North Lake College tomorrow at Bengal Stadium at 1:00PM.  The game will be live streamed on Bengals All-Access on www.lsuebengals.net.
