LSUE Clamps Down On BRCC, Soars On Sophomore Night

Box Score

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice men's basketball used a stout defensive effort to score a 75-52 runaway win over Baton Rouge CC on Wednesday at the HPRE Center.  The 42 points allowed by the Bengals (18-5, 6-1 LCCAC) is the lowest point total for an opponent in conference play during LSUE's two-year team history.

LSUE honored its eight sophomores before the game with a presentation at midcourt.

The Bengals and Bears were locked in a tight 10-10 battle in the first half before LSUE ripped off a 26-6 run.  Michael Smith Jr. (Lafayette, LA, Comeaux HS) led the first half charge with all of his eight points coming before halftime.  The run was also spearheaded by a tough defensive stand by the Bengals, holding BRCC to just 7-for-31 (22.5%) shooting in the first half.

LSUE would hold Baton Rouge CC to 15-for-67 (22.4%) shooting from the floor for the night.

The Bengals would continue to surge in the second half, building as large as a 35-point lead.  Tre Washington (Gibson, LA, Houma Christian HS) chipped in 10 points off the bench in the second half, one of four players to score double-digit points for the Bengals.

Tyrone Hugue (Mansfield, TX, Lake Ridge HS) led LSUE with arguably his best performance with the Bengals, recording his first double double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.  Jonathan Cisse (Grand Coteau, LA, St. Thomas More HS) (10 points) and Jevon Berry (Arnaudville, LA, Cecilia HS) (13 points) also enjoyed double-digit point nights.

The Bengals will now head back on the road for a critical LCCAC contest this Saturday.  LSUE heads to Southern-Shreveport for a de facto conference championship game.  The two teams are tied atop the LCCAC standings at 6-1 with two games to go and the winner will own a tiebreaker over the other.  Tip-off from Shreveport is slated for 4:00PM.
