Box Score EUNICE, La. – The top two teams showed why they are the cream of the conference crop this season as LSU Eunice men's basketball fell to Southern-Shreveport, 77-76, on Wednesday inside the HPRE Center. The Bengals (16-5, 4-1 LCCAC) fell for the first time in conference play and at home this season.
More than six points never separated the two teams for the final 30 minutes of the game. LSUE would last hold a 69-67 edge with less than six minutes remaining before the Jaguars ripped off 7-0 run to take the lead for good.
The Bengals wouth claw back within a point and have the ball with under seven seconds remaining but
Tyrone Hugue's (Mansfield, TX, Lake Ridge HS) last chance floater would fall short. Hugue was one of three Bengals to lead the team with 16 points on the evening.
Christavious Thomas poured in a game-high 23 points for SU-Shreveport and combined with Latreavin Black for 23 of the Jaguars' 38 points after intermission.
LSU Eunice roared out to a fast start, taking a commanding 20-11 edge. The Jaguars would respond with a 14-0 run to take five-point lead. LSUE would claw back to hold a slim 40-39 advantage at the halftime break.
Jonathan Cisse (Grand Coteau, LA, St. Thomas More HS) scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half.
Jevon Berry (Arnaudville, LA, Cecilia HS) (16 points) and
Isaiah Payne (Ville Platte, LA, Pine Prairie HS) (12 points) were the other Bengals to record a double-digit point effort.
The Bengals will be back inside the HPRE Center this Saturday as LSU Eunice is set to host Delgado. The doubleheader will end with the men's game at 4:00PM.
