Tabb, Jones Key Late Rally For LSUE In Centenary Win

EUNICE, La. – Hunter Tabb (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) and Scott Jones (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) helped LSU Eunice survived a scare from Centenary College JV in an 8-2 victory on Wednesday at Bengal Stadium.  The duo each drove in three runs late to help LSUE (21-0) overcome a 2-1 deficit in the seventh inning.

Both regular starters were used in pinch-hit roles in the seventh as the Bengals tried to climb out of their hole.  Tabb kicked off the rally with a one-out single to bring in Thomas Stevens (Crowley, LA, Notre Dame HS), tying the game 2-2.  Jones would follow two batter later with a RBI single to plate Tabb and give the Bengals the lead for good.

LSUE would open up the game with a five-run eighth inning after the duo would each produce a two-run single to see the Bengals' lead jump to 8-2.  Noah Beason (Lufkin, TX, Huntington HS) would preserve the win in the ninth, striking out three batters while giving up one hit and a walk.

Chance Stone (Sulphur, LA, Sulphur HS) kept LSUE within striking distance with six strong innings on a tough luck no-decision.  The sophomore right-hander scattered two runs off four hits while not issuing a walk and striking out eight batters.  Stone gave up a sixth inning home run, Centenary's lone scoring hit of the game.

Nathan Holmes (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Streetsville Secondary) (W, 2-0) picked up the win with two innings of one-hit relief, striking out four batters.

LSUE's other run came in second inning as Reed Babin (St. Amant, LA, St. Amant HS) reached safely on a Gent error, allowing Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) to score.

McDonald combined with Tabb and Jones to produce six of the team's eight hits.

The Bengals will stay at home this weekend for a three-game set against Murray State starting Friday at 6:00PM.  All games can be seen on Bengal All-Access.
