ANDALUSIA, Ala. – No. 1 LSU Eunice continued its impressive start to the 2021 campaign with a 12-4 victory over L.B. Wallace on Sunday to complete a road weekend sweep. It was the Bengals' (13-0) first road series of the season.
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) provided the opening statement with a lead-off home run to begin the game, one of three homers hit by LSUE bats on the afternoon. Quinn capped off a breakout weekend with a 2-for-4 game, driving in a season's best three RBIs while also stealing three bases.
After L.B. Wallace tied up the game with solo home run in the fourth inning, it was Quinn again coming through with a two-run single in the fifth.
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) would break the game open an inning later with a solo home run, his third of the season.
That was plenty for
Dalton Burrell (Bossier City, LA, Airline HS), producing his best outing with the Bengals. Burrell gave up just one earned run off one hit and a walk in six innings of work, striking out three batters. The right-hander would sit down the Saints batters in order five of the six innings pitched.
Austin Andrishok (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS),
Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS),
Noah Beason (Lufkin, TX, Huntington HS) and
Jase McDonald (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) pieced together the final three frames.
After a five-run seventh inning put the game out of reach,
Michael Fontenot's (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) pinch-hit three-run homer pushed the Bengals' lead to 12-3 and put an exclamation point on the weekend sweep.
Quinn,
Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS),
Kole Myers (Jennings, LA, Jennings HS) and
Brady Hebert (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) produced multi-hit games in LSUE's 13-hit day.
The Bengals stay on the road for a Tuesday matchup with Centenary College. First pitch from Shehee Stadium is set for 4:00PM. LSUE returns home next weekend for a four-game series with Murray State College beginning Friday, March 5 at 6:00PM.
