LSUE Runs Into Hot Chipola Squad, Fall In Road Tilt

MARIANNA, Fla. – LSU Eunice ran into a hot shooting Chipola College squad as the third-ranked Indians delivered an 89-43 setback to the Bengals on Saturday.  It's the highest ranked team LSUE has played under Jamie Gonzales and highest in program history since tangling with top-ranked Trinity Valley in the 2014-15 season.

Chipola come out firing on all cylinders, racing out to a 30-9 first quarter lead.  The Indians shot 57.1 percent (20-for-35) from the field in the first half including 6-for-10 from three point range.  Chipola was led by a game-high 31 points from Demyla Brown.

LSUE struggled to find its grove with Tahjea Smith (Texas City, TX, Texas City HS) proving to be a bright spot for the Bengals.  The freshman pumped in 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead LSUE in both categories.  Alona Washington (Gonzales, LA, Ascension Christian HS) also chipped in 13 points for the evening.

The Bengals will play their first home game of the season this Wednesday with No. 18 Blinn College coming to town.  Tip-off from the HPRE Center is scheduled for 5:30PM.
