EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice exploded for eight runs in the second inning and never looked back, defeating National Park 17-0 on Sunday at Bengal Stadium. The win gave the Bengals (7-0) a four-game sweep of the weekend in games against the Nighthawks and LSU Alexandria.
LSUE used four hits and four walks to put up the eight spot. The fireworks began with an
Ayden Makarus (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, Foothills Composite HS) two-run home run. The freshman also ended the frame with a RBI double, scoring
Hunter Tabb (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS). Tabb unleashed a bases loaded three-run triple while
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS) and
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS) also brought in runs during the frame.
LeJeune, Tabb, Makarus and
Brady Hebert (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) all produced multi-hit games in the Bengals' 12-hit attack.
LSUE would bump up their lead to 13-0 with four runs in the sixth inning before emptying the bench.
Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) and
Michael Fontenot (Kinder, LA, Kinder HS) would each drive in runs in the seventh as the Bengals added another four-run frame. LSUE had 14 different players make a plate appearance.
The Bengals also emptied the bullpen on Sunday, using seven relief pitchers after
Luke McGibboney (Gonzales, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) was taken out after two shutout innings.
Jase McDonald (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) was credited with the win after getting two outs, giving up one hit.
LSUE closes out its season opening homestand next weekend as Coastal Alabama-South comes to town. The three game series begins Friday, February 12 with a 6:00PM start time.
