BRUSLY, La. – LSU Eunice responded after a tough Friday setback to take down Baton Rouge CC 8-2 at Brusly High on Saturday. The Bengals (18-3) used a four-run fourth inning and a solid effort on the mound to split the home-and-home with the Bears this weekend.
BRCC was first to score again as the Bears capitalized on a walk and one of its only two hits on the day to plate the opening run.
The Bengals changed the game in the fourth with a four-run frame, using five hits and two errors.
Hunter Tabb (Scott, LA, Acadiana HS) jumpstarted the attack, driving home
Peyton LeJeune (Church Point, LA, Teurlings Catholic HS). It was the first of four consecutive run scoring at bats. LSUE would three more runs two innings later as
Jarrett McDonald (Sterlington, LA, Sterlington HS),
Beau Kirsch (Lafayette, LA, Acadiana HS) and LeJeune all produced runs.
Jack Merrifield (Prairieville, LA, Dutchtown HS) added a ninth inning insurance run with a sacrifice grounder to plate
Carter Quinn (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS).
LeJeune, Tabb and McDonald collected multi-hit games in the Bengals' 11-hit attack.
Drew Lasseigne (Greenwell Springs, LA, Central HS) (3-0) grabbed the win after 5.1 innings of work, scattering two earned runs off one hit and six walks. Lasseigne also struck out three batters.
Austin Andrishok (Baton Rouge, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS) and
Jacob Hammond (Monroe, LA, Ouachita HS) combined to toss three shutout relief innings.
