EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice used an eight-run opening inning to set the stage for a 13-3 victory over LSU Alexandria JV in seven innings on Thursday at Bengal Stadium. It is the 13th time this season LSUE (20-3) has scored double digit runs in a game. The Bengals lead the nation in runs with 266.
Ayden Makarus (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, Foothills Composite HS) got the offensive showcase started with a two-run home run, his team's best sixth long ball of the season.
Thomas Papadopoulos (Brooklyn, NY, Xaverian HS) would extend the inning with a bases loaded three run double to push the lead to six.
Bryce LaRocca (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) capped the big inning with a two-run single.
All eight runs came with two outs in the inning.
After LSUA scratched two runs back, Papadopoulos would produce a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. LSUE would then score four more runs in the sixth highlighted by a solo home run from
Cade Hart (Shreveport, LA, Calvary Baptist HS) and a RBI single from Papadopoulos.
Papadopoulos would enjoy a five RBI game in his first start as a Bengal. LaRocca and Makarus joined the redshirt freshman with multi-hit games.
Jackson Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX) (3-0) picked up the win after going four innings, giving up one earned run off three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters.
Luke McGibboney (Gonzales, LA, Catholic-Baton Rouge HS),
Dylan Beier (Lake Charles, LA, Barbe HS) and
Jase McDonald (Denham Springs, LA, Denham Springs HS) finished out the game as the Bengals combined for 11 punch-outs.
LSU Eunice will start a six-game road swing at National Park College. The return trip to face the Nighthawks in a three-game set starts with a single game at 6:00PM on Saturday.
